Shaomai (also known as siu mai) are one of the most recognisable stars of Cantonese dim sum – open-topped dumplings filled with a savoury blend of seafood or meat and steamed until tender and juicy. Traditionally served in bamboo baskets, they represent both craftsmanship and comfort, the kind of handmade food shared with family and friends over tea and conversation.
